Goat Island Project Meeting Scheduled for September

It has been just over a year since we lost the goats on Goat Island. It’s time now to return them. As a community you have been generous in your donations to this project and it’s much appreciated. As of now you have donated $2,020 through the gofundme account toward returning the goats. Gofundme deducted $67.90 for their portion leaving a remaining balance of $1,952.10 to use for the project. It’s not too late to donate. Just click this link and it will take you to the gofundme page.

It’s now time to move forward to the next step. We have been waiting for the TRA and the attorneys to prepare the lease for the grazing rights on the island.

Several residents have volunteered to work with the schools and use their boats to carry the goats onto the island and check on them after they have been moved there. We have scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, September 19th at 7 PM at the Sebastopol Community Church for anyone interested in getting involved in this historic movement. Sebastopol Community Church is located on Hwy 356 across from the intersection of Hwy 355 going to Groveton.

At this meeting we will select a Manager and an Assistant Manager and committee members who will be the future contact for all things Goat Island. These individuals will be responsible for all arrangements, including opening a bank account to manage any monies used in the project, keep records, feed the goats through the winter, and correspond with the schools etc. to arrange for health care and maintenance.
