Trinity County Veterans Wall of Honor Society holds fundraiser for veterans
On Saturday, October 27, the Trinity County Veterans Wall of Honor Society successfully raised funds to help the veterans of Trinity County at Scheelbillie’s Saloon on FM356. The numbers aren’t in yet, but last year the group raised more than $16,000 to use to help Trinity’s veterans. In an on-camera interview with Tom McCrory, Wall of Honor Society’s President said they were working on three projects for local veterans, building two handicap bathrooms and a ramp.
Scheelbillies was packed as the community came out to support our veterans. The funds raised Saturday are used solely to assist veterans who need help with transportation, medications, housing modifications, ramps, home repairs, and bathroom modifications for those who are not able to do these projects themselves.
David Drake, from the Trinity Auction Gallery, was on hand to auction off the items donated by the community. There was an abundance of bar-b-que, cooked by, Terry Threlkeld, Manager of the Goat Island Project, and fried fish available for the huge crowd.
The Veteran’s Wall of Honor Society is hoping to encourage younger veterans to get involved with them. Able bodied volunteers are needed to assist with these projects. If anyone is interested in helping or if they have someone that might qualify for assistance please contact Tom McCrory (936-577-8689), Bill Reeves (936-661-7107). or Randy Barclay (936-933-0953).
The preliminary total from Saturday’s fundraiser is $13,355.00
